Two beautifully balanced swords, with their sharp edges gleaming, intersect at the center of the image against a serene twilight backdrop filled with hues of deep indigo and orange. A blindfolded male figure of Middle-Eastern descent sits in meditation at the intersection point of the swords, symbolizing tranquility and quietude amidst decision-making. The man, clothed in simple garb, is reaching towards his blindfold with gentle fingers, suggesting the distinct notion of him making a conscious, balanced choice.

Wednesday Tarot Reading: July 31st, 2024

Today’s theme is about making balanced decisions, exploring passions and embracing intuitive wisdom.

Our first card drawn today is the Two of Swords. In traditional tarot imagery, this represents a moment of stalemate, turned to inactivity due to an overwhelming sense of needing to balance. But the Two of Swords is also a symbol of harmony and inner peace. As the famous stoic philosopher, Epictetus once said:

“We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.”

Similarly, the Two of Swords is a sign that while you are facing a challenging situation, the key is not to fall into paralysis but to respond with wisdom and balance. The stoics firmly believed in using reason to navigate difficult decisions, and this is a time for you to do just the same. Reflect deeply, detach yourself from emotional bias, and logically assess what is the best path forward.

Our second card for today, the Knight of Wands, is all about vibrancy, passion, and movement. The Knight is a symbol of a quest - a burning drive within you to explore and pursue your passions with ardor. Marcus Aurelius, a man regarded as the very embodification of stoicism once said:

“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”

Emulate the Knight of Wands, be as relentless as the stars, keep pushing, and do not let anything draw you away from the path you’ve picked for yourself. Fiery as this Knight is, remember to also stay wise and cautious. Passion without wisdom can lead to reckless actions.

To find some serenity amidst the storms of strife, we have our last card, the Queen of Cups. The Queen, in her most humble and gracious form, signifies understanding, compassion, and intuition. Sea creatures can’t see where the ocean ends, but they trust their instinct and the direction of the current to guide them. This signifies

”Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”

The Queen of Cups calls you to trust your instincts, your intuition. Be open to the emotions of others around you, and accept their feelings without judgment, just as the ocean accepts any river. Reach inside yourself to draw upon your deepest wells of compassion and intuition, and in so doing, find that you are more connected to those around you than you might have originally thought.

Today’s Journaling Prompt: Reflect deeply on a recent difficult decision you needed, or need to make. How can you use logic and wisdom from the Two of Swords to balance your choice? Dwell on your passions and the path you have chosen for yourself – how does the drive of the Knight of Wands resonate with you? And lastly, in what ways can you channel the understanding and intuition of the Queen of Cups in your daily interactions?
