Create an artwork titled 'The Stoic's Wheel of Fortune'. In this image, the wheel is decorated with various real-life scenarios that represent the cycles of life. The upper half should be filled with joyous moments like accomplishing an objective, nurturing a lush garden, and the feeling of love. The lower part, on the other hand, should portray life's more difficult aspects such as loss, struggle, and change. A serene philosopher in the background, indifferent to ethnicity or gender, is subtly manipulating the wheel's direction, embodying acceptance and tranquility in the face of life's alternating fortunes.

Sunday Tarot Insight: June 9th, 2024

Greetings and salutations, dear reader. As our practice for the day, we have drawn a three-card spread consisting of the Wheel of Fortune, The Empress, and Seven of Pentacles. The overarching theme of this reading is Pilgrimage, the journey to discover the spirit’s true north.

Our first card, the Wheel of Fortune, is a symbol of life’s cycles, changes, and inevitable fate. On its surface, this card represents the endless twists and turns that life presents to us, the rises and falls that are woven into the fabric of our existence. However, in the world of stoic philosophy, we are reminded that:

“We cannot control the winds of fate, but we can adjust the sails.”

It’s critical to remember that while we cannot control the circumstances that life presents to us, we can control our reactions and perceptions of them.

Now, we move to our second card, The Empress. This card stands as a beacon of fertility, sensuality, and motherhood. The Empress urges us to nurture our creative potential and enjoy the tangible and the sensual - the life force in full bloom. Yet, from a stoic’s perspective, these qualities need to be tamed by reason and self-control. For as Epictetus said:

“Freedom is secured not by fulfilling our desires, but by removing them.”

We should celebrate life and not become consumed by our desires, but rather find contentment within the present moment. Indulge in the fruits of our labor but maintain a sense of balance.

The reading is completed by the Seven of Pentacles. This card represents a pause for evaluation. You’ve laid down the groundwork, and now it’s time to step back and assess. Behind this card lies a stoic reflection as:

“Enduring and surviving is a result of evaluating risks and rewards.”

Taking on board the notion of preferring virtue over vice, consider ways we can improve, learn from mistakes and grow stronger. The Seven of Pentacles is about persistence and consistency. Remember, the sweet fruit of patience is the most delicious of them all.

In summary, today’s reading signifies the acceptance of change, the balance of desire and contentment, and the benefits of patience, reflection, and calculated risks.

As we conclude today’s journey, I invite you to reflect on the following journaling prompt:

How do you interpret and respond to the ever-changing wheel of life? Can you identify areas in your life demanding more balance? And finally, are you giving your own growth and progress enough time to flourish?

Remember, your present situation is not your final destination. Embrace the flow of the Wheel of Fortune, balance your life with the grace of the Empress, and evaluate your progress with the wisdom of the Seven of Pentacles.
