A knight encased in gleaming armor grips a golden chalice embodying an array of emotions. This figure stands sturdily beside a serene river, their gaze riveted on the reflection of a solitary rose shimmering on the water's surface. All around them, the delicate light of dusk casts a gentle glow, enhancing the peacefulness and introspection of the scene, as if nature itself is holding its breath at the knight's reverie and anticipation.

In our pursuit of understanding and wisdom, we allow ourselves to traverse a multi-faceted scenario represented by Knight of Cups, The Hierophant, and Seven of Swords.

Our first card, the Knight of Cups, typically represents the ‘bringer’ of ideas, opportunities and propositions. This card resonates with the romantic energy where the heart rules over the mind. The Knight often sees life through rose-coloured glasses. However, in stoic thought, life isn’t always a ‘rosy’ proposition. Marcus Aurelius once said:

“The objective judgement, now, at this very moment. Unselfish action, now, at this very moment. Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of all external events. That’s all you need.”

Which suggests that while passion is important, we should keep a level-headed, objective perspective. For today, don’t lose track of practicality while you pursue your ideals or dreams.

Our journey leads us to the The Hierophant. Traditionally, The Hierophant speaks of the wisdom and learning that come from traditional institutions or aged wisdom. This is reminiscent of the stoic idea of learning from the past and from those wiser than ourselves:

“The safety and the health of your mind depend on how it does or does not relate itself to things. Things themselves pose no threat. The mind can take these entities, strip them bare, and view them in their nakedness.” - Epictetus

The Hierophant implores us to seek the wisdom in traditional values and societal structures—find your place in the grand scheme of things, respect those who have paved your path, and learn from history.

Lastly, we end with the Seven of Swords. This card traditionally represents a stealthy tactic and strategy. It may also symbolize an indication of betrayal or deception. As stoics, we are reminded by Seneca that:

“No one can lead a happy life if he thinks only of himself and turns everything to his own purposes. You should live for the other person if you wish to live for yourself.”

Look out for people or situations that might be attempting to deceive or manipulate, but also, hold yourself accountable to act honorably and transparently, putting the welfare of others and the community first.

This tarot spread beckons us to pursue our passion with realism tightly interwoven, to respect tradition and wisdom, and to maintain honesty and transparency in all endeavors.
