Imagine a dynamic scene of a strong wind blowing against eight wands or rods. These rods are depicted hovering gracefully through an open azure sky, reflecting enormous energy and dynamic movement. Despite the swift and forceful aerial spectacle, the ground remains serene; it's a peaceful meadow awash in the golden light of daybreak. This dichotomy between the ground and the sky mirrors the balance between change and serenity. The ground stands for the present moment, indicating tranquility and calmness despite the quick and eventful sky changes.

Sunday Tarot Insight - March 24th, 2024

There’s something enlightening about the cards we have drawn today. They paint a picture of action, balance and perserverence. As the first card, we see the Eight of Wands. It’s a strong start and an especially powerful card often associated with swiftness and movement, both literal and metaphorical. The Eight of Wands represents sudden action or change, and it often signals a flurry of activity.

”Just as the Wands are sent flying swift and high in the air, so too does the pace of life pick up when you pull this card.”

This being said, remember the words of the great stoic philosopher Seneca - “True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient.” As enticing as rapid progress may be, it’s just as important to stay rooted in the present and appreciate the journey. Revel in the pace of life, but don’t lose sight of the moment.

Our second draw, the Four of Pentacles, is a call for balance. The card depicts a man clutching four coins, and this image is often associated with stability, control, and security. It might be a warning against becoming too possessive or closed off in fear of loss.

”While the man in the Four of Pentacles is materially successful, his clutching at his possessions signifies a sense of fear and insecurity.”

However, as Epictetus said, “Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” Strive for balance. Don’t let the fear of losing your treasures prevent you from enjoying them or sharing with others.

Lastly, we draw the Knight of Pentacles. This diligent Knight represents hard work, routine, and responsibility. He is the embodiment of commitment and reliability and advises us that success comes to those who grind despite the mundanity of the task.

”Just like the Knight’s mount remains steadfast, so too should we remain consistent in our pursuit of our goals.”

Yet, as reminder by Marcus Aurelius, “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” Don’t esteem the product of your work higher than the work itself. Find joy in the journey, not just the destination.

Thank you for joining me in today’s reading. Each day is a new page in our book of life. Gather your strength from the flurry of the Eight of Wands, seek balance in the wisdom of the Four of Pentacles, and keep grinding like the tenacious Knight of Pentacles.

Journal Prompt: Reflect on a present situation where you can slow down to appreciate your journey. Are there aspects in your life where you need to find balance or release possessions/attachments? How can you honor the consistent, diligent effort of your work rather than just the outcome? Write about these in your journal.
