Embracing Growth and Victories: A Tarot Reflection for Sunday, February 25th, 2024
We begin today’s reflection with the reassuring and yet challenging Page of Pentacles. This card presents an air of youthful ambition and keenness to learn, embracing the stoic belief that the good and fulfilling life is one enriched through self-improvement and the dedication to mastering skills.
”He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.” - Epictetus
The Page of Pentacles draws our attention to this pursuit of knowledge, as a reminder that we should not allow a day to pass without gaining some new understanding or developing a skill. Reflect on your current endeavors and identify areas where you could benefit from this youthful eagerness to learn. But remember, ambition alone is not enough without the action behind it - as is the stoic philosophy.
The Four of Pentacles follows, a card often associated with control, stability, and security at the potential cost of greed or stubborn resistance. A fitting stoic quote would be:
“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.” - Seneca
Whilst the stoics put emphasis on safeguarding ones tranquility, it’s crucial to not allow our desire for security to limit our potential for growth and personal development. The Four of Pentacles bids us to consider our relationship with our resources, but let us not lapse into fear, hoarding, or an unhealthy attachment to materiality. Stoicism reminds us that a good life is not guaranteed by wealth, but by virtue, wisdom, justice, and well-managed emotions.
Finally, we arrive at the Six of Wands, a symbol of accomplishment, recognition, and victory. In true stoic fashion, we must acknowledge these achievements as the result of our past choices and actions, but never allow our success to inflate our ego.
”Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems.” - Epictetus
The Six of Wands reminds us to celebrate our victories, but also consider them as stepping stones towards greater goals. In taking credit for our achievements, let us remember the virtue of humility.
Journalling Prompt:

How are you balancing your sense of security with your freedom to grow with the Four of Pentacles? And finally, are you celebrating your victories while keeping sight of the journey ahead with the Six of Wands?
By reflecting on these questions, we stand to gain insightful understanding about our lives, fostering our growth in the nurturing light of stoicism offered through these cards.
